Pasta of Campofilone

In the heart of Abruzzi there is a small area that is called the “Plain of Navelli” near to the mounts around the city of L’Aquila, where the earth quake had place in 2009. This place is famous among gourmets around the world for the production of this saffron spice. Saffron is obtained from the stigmas of the flowers of crocus sativus, once dried and pulverized. The cultivation of saffron is still manual. Next to the traditional classic gastronomic purposes, (as in the risotto alla Milanese) it is used in desserts, liquors and also as a medicinal plant.
