The Gran Sasso National Park is located in the northern part of the region and also includes the Laga Mounts. We recommend a route between Rocca Calascio and Santo Stefano di Sessanio. By car you pass through some really fascinating scenic areas along breathtaking scenic roads. You reach Calascio, a village at the foot of the fortress, continue on a paved road and then walk along the path that leads to the Castle. The fort is located at 1460 m is one of the highest castles in Europe and dates back to 1000. It shows four circular towers placed around the inner quadrangular protection tower. Nearby is the church of Our Lady of Mercy (Madonna della Pietà).
